Homeschooling equals freedom

Our family has been homeschooling for over a decade now. We have a high schooler and an elementary aged kiddo. The decision to homeschool has been such a blessing for our family. The biggest blessing that homeschooling provides our family is freedom.

We live in the state of Texas, which allows for a decent amount of freedom in our educational philosophy and choices. (Check with hslda.org to learn what your states homeschool laws are.) Texas requires that we provide our kiddos with an education in reading, spelling, grammar, math, and good citizenship. Our family goes beyond those subjects to include subjects we really enjoy.

Homeschooling allows us:

  • to start the day whenever is best for our family

  • to use materials that we believe to be the best fit for each child

  • to include real world experiences as learning opportunities and enrichment

  • to include topics of interest to be explored and practiced

  • time, to use as we see is most beneficial for our family and each child

  • the ability to learn subjects and ideas together as a family and independently

  • time to practice a hobby or skill

  • the ability to travel when the weather is great and there are less crowds because we can take our learning materials with us

  • the ability to schedule our days/weeks/months for school in a way that fits our family

  • time to volunteer

  • to schedule our breaks when it's best for our family

  • precious time together

I could go on and on about why we love to homeschool, but in the interest of keeping your eyes open, I'll stop there for now. Homeschooling can be such an incredible gift. It's all about what you make of it. More freedom for families is a beautiful thing.

With Love,

Cara
